The "Butterfly's Whisper" Blog

Welcome to my blog. I hope by sharing my own misophonia experiences, others who are frustrated with misophonia sensitivities will discover that they're not alone. I also hope that people who may not have misophonia will gain some insight about what it's like to have this condition.

Please feel free to post any comments or use the "Contact Us" page if you have any questions/comments you don't want to post online.

(Although I'm writing this on the 15th PST, the website host must be using EST for the dates because this post is showing up as being on the 16th."

Anyways... Three years ago today (July 15th), I was first introduced to the term "misophonia" by a stranger on a plane. It feels like it happened so long ago, but so much has happened since then too. The journey I've been traveling just to find relief - or at least a better understanding of the medical condition - has taken me around the country (and across the Atlantic), introduced me to so many other sufferers, and opened my eyes to a condition that has truly changed my life.

Despite how long I've suffered with misophonia, I feel like my journey has only just begun...

Hi, Judy. Good to hear from you! Love the Seattle area. Work definitely keeps me busy - especially with all the responsibilities of managing an office. Also went to a "HSP MeetUp" group meeting a couple of weekends ago. Funny how none of them had heard of misophonia before, but after describing what it is, a few people asked me for info about the sensehaven.com website to learn more about misophonia.

We'll have to catch up sometime. Hope you're doing well. Have a great weekend!

Just found out today 30Aug15 that this is what I have. I heard a health radio chat about misophonia and it was like a light blub being turned on and everything making sense. And I happen to have stumbled upon your blog. I look forward to reading more.
Thank you for sharing all you do!

Hi, Glorya. Welcome to the "club." Where did you hear the radio chat about misophonia? (I'm hoping they might have it online that I can post a link to it.)

I know exactly what you mean by the "light bulb," as that's the exact feeling I had when a stranger on a plane told me about the 20/20 misophonia report she saw. I'm sure with this revelation you probably have a lot of questions about misophonia. Feel free to send me a message through the "Contact Form," if you'd like to ask something directly instead of posting it to this forum.

Hang in there! Know that you're not alone!

    About the Author

Emlyn Altman has been suffering with misophonia for over 35 years, even though she only found out about the actual medical condition much more recently. As frustrating as the condition has been over the years, her heightened sensitivities across all the senses considerably influenced her talents within the visual fine arts (particularly sculpture), music (singing, piano, and many other instruments), writing, and culinary backgrounds, as well as professional achievements as an architectural lighting designer. Her goal in developing this website is to promote more awareness about misophonia and help other sufferers as well.
