The "Butterfly's Whisper" Blog

Welcome to my blog. I hope by sharing my own misophonia experiences, others who are frustrated with misophonia sensitivities will discover that they're not alone. I also hope that people who may not have misophonia will gain some insight about what it's like to have this condition.

Huge Changes Ahead!

A lot has happened in the past couple of weeks, most notably is that I gave my resignation this morning. Yes, you read right... I'm making yet ANOTHER major cross-country move, this time from south to north. I'm leaving Vegas for an opportunity to head up a firm in Seattle! This has been the shortest duration I've ever lived somewhere, but it was an opportunity I'd be a fool to pass up.

The thought of making a THIRD move in less than nine months is not something I'm thrilled about, but having an opportunity to own my own firm - one that's already well established - is very exciting for me.

I'm especially looking forward to my new abode... Given my misophonia and past hellish experiences with horrible neighbors, I focused my search for a single family house, but finding a rental up there was a cutthroat experience. People were having bidding wars on rental properties. It was ridiculous but in the end, it was a game I wound up playing too.

The realtor who helped me find a place to live knew about my sensitivity condition, and advised me when a property would not be a good fit for me. I ended up getting a townhouse - which was not my intent. I was dead set on never having shared walls/floors/ceilings ever again. This place is fabulous though. It's only attached on one side and laid out such that the rooms where I'd be spending the most time are furthest away from the connected unit. There's also nothing but landscaping in the back and being 35 minutes east of Seattle, it's a very quiet area. There's even a hiking trailhead within steps of the place - so there'll be many opportunities to unwind with a meditative walk in nature.

I'll be very interested to see how this next chapter in my life affects my misophonia. Hopefully, it will be a positive step in my journey towards relief!  :-)

More to come...

    About the Author

Emlyn Altman has been suffering with misophonia for over 35 years, even though she only found out about the actual medical condition much more recently. As frustrating as the condition has been over the years, her heightened sensitivities across all the senses considerably influenced her talents within the visual fine arts (particularly sculpture), music (singing, piano, and many other instruments), writing, and culinary backgrounds, as well as professional achievements as an architectural lighting designer. Her goal in developing this website is to promote more awareness about misophonia and help other sufferers as well.
